The Subtle Causes of Sorrow, Problems, and Obstacles in the Lives of Sahaja Yogis

 *Jai Shri Mataji* 🙏

*Subject: The Subtle Causes of Sorrow, Problems, and Obstacles in the Lives of Sahaja Yogis*

🌸 *Introduction*

Often in practical life, many Sahaja Yogis ask this question: *"If we are Sahaja Yogis, why do we still have sorrow and problems in our lives?"*

Shri Mataji explains that after coming into Sahaja Yoga, problems can arise for two reasons: either it is a *'Clearing Process'*, or it is the result of our own *'violation of maryadas (spiritual principles)'* and the *'grip of the subtle system'*.

In the process of becoming an *'angel'*, these obstacles should be seen as a form of *tapasya* (austerity) and *refinement*.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Perspective on Problems)*:

*"Sometimes you feel that you are in great trouble. But you must understand that to purify gold, it has to be heated in fire. This fire is not meant to burn you, but to purify you. When you pass through these difficulties and remain firm in your faith, only then do you become a beautiful ornament."*

— *(Navaratri Puja, Switzerland - 1988)*

*1. The Importance of 'Clearing' and 'Self-Reliance'* 🧹

The difficulties that arise after coming into Sahaja Yoga are often the settlement of our past karmas. Shri Mataji says this is not an illness, but the *coming out of illness*.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Reason for Obstacles)*:

*"Why do obstacles come? Because you are still not completely clean. If a diamond is dirty, the light cannot pass through it. You are a diamond, but you still have the dust of your past karmas, your conditioning, and your ego upon you. When the Kundalini rises, it cleans you... This is not an illness, it is the coming out of illness."*

— *(Shri Ganesha Puja, Brighton, U.K. - 1984)*

For clearing, we should not depend only on Mother; we must also learn to use our own powers.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Become Your Own Guru)*:

*"You must learn to face your problems. You cannot run to me for every small thing. You must find the solutions to your problems yourself, because now you are 'self-realized'. You have the power, you have the vibrations. Use them. When you solve your own problems, you grow."*

— *(Guru Puja, Austria - 1985)*

*2. The Main Gateway of Sorrow: The Grip on the 'Agnya Chakra'* 🚪

The greatest obstacle in the lives of Sahaja Yogis is *'ego'* and *'superego'*. These two block our Agnya Chakra, cutting us off from divine guidance.

*(a) Ego and Excessive Thinking (Right Side):*

When we think too much or worry about the future, our liver gets affected and our nature becomes irritable.

👇 Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Thoughts and the Liver)*:

*"Why do most Sahaja Yogis have liver problems? Because they think too much. They plan about the future... This excessive thinking heats up your liver. The cure for it is ice. Put ice on your liver and stop thinking. Just become a witness."*

— *(Lecture on the Bhagavad Gita, 1980)*

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(On Ego)*:

*"The biggest problem is 'Mr. Ego'. It never allows you to see that the mistake is within you... As long as this balloon is on your head, how can the grace of God enter within you? You must kill this 'I'."*

— *(Sahasrara Puja, Cabella, Italy - 1994)*

*(b) Superego, Guilt, and the Past (Left Side):*

Many Sahaja Yogis remain sad because of past events or feel *guilty*. This catches the left Vishuddhi and destroys joy.

👇 Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Guilt)*:

*"One of the worst things you can do is to feel guilty. It catches your Vishuddhi Chakra on the left side. When you feel guilty, you are actually saying that the forgiving power of God is smaller than your mistake. This is ego. Just say, 'Mother, I am what I am, please correct me,' and forget about it."*

— *(Vishuddhi and Hamsa Chakra, New York - 1981)*

👇 Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Crying Over the Past)*:

*"Sorrow always comes from the past. You remember that 'this happened to me, he said this.' What is gone is dead. Why are you carrying a corpse on your shoulders? Throw it away. In the present moment there is no sorrow, there is only joy."*

— *(Public Program, Mumbai - 1979)*

---

*3. Maryada, Collectivity, and the Lakshmi Principle* 🌸

To become an *'angel'*, it is essential for a seeker to live within spiritual principles (maryadas). Sorrow comes when we break protocol.

*(a) Lack of Collectivity:*

Meditating alone and not going to the center can lead to downfall.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Collectivity)*:

*"Some people say, 'Mother, we meditate at home, why should we go to the center?' I tell you, if you do not come to the center (collectivity), you will go out of Sahaja Yoga. Alone you cannot fight the negativity that exists in the world. When you are together, you are like a bundle of sticks that no one can break. When separated, you will break."*

— *(Sahasrara Puja, London - 1982)*

*(b) Money and Generosity:*

Financial problems arise when we become greedy for money or are not generous.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Lakshmi Principle)*:

*"If you run after money, Lakshmi runs away from you. But if you respect Lakshmi (contentment and generosity), then money runs after you. Sahaja Yogis should not be miserly... When you give, the flow begins. Water that remains stagnant becomes rotten."*

— *(Diwali Puja, 1984)*

---

*4. Wandering Attention ('Chitta') and Criticizing Others* 👁️

One major cause of sorrow is seeing the faults of others instead of seeing our own. When our attention wanders outward or we become *judgmental*, we stop our own progress.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Criticism)*:

*"When you point a finger at others in criticism, remember that three fingers are pointing back at you. Do not try to correct others. Correct only yourself. If you see the faults of others, those faults come into you."*

— *(Birthday Puja, Delhi - 1993)*

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Purity of Attention)*:

*"If your attention is in the mud, how can you become a lotus?... Watch your attention. As soon as it goes outside, gently bring it back and place it at my feet. Pure attention is the mirror in which God can see His reflection."*

— *(Meditation Camp, Ganapatipule - 1991)*

---

*5. A Warning of 'Dharma' for Sahaja Yogis* ⚖️

Shri Mataji explains that after becoming Sahaja Yogis, special attention is given to us. If we act against dharma, the punishment also comes quickly so that we may correct ourselves.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Following Dharma)*:

*"You are now the protectors of dharma. If a policeman himself starts stealing, he receives greater punishment than an ordinary thief... If you knowingly do wrong actions and follow adharma, your downfall will be very rapid. You must establish 'dharma' in your life."*

— *(Krishna Puja, New York, USA - 1983)*

---

*6. The Solution: Faith and the Protective Shield* 🛡️

Ultimately, the root cause of all sorrow and obstacles is *lack of faith*. When we doubt, the protective shield breaks.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Doubts)*:

*"Obstacles affect more those people who have doubts. Doubts create holes in your protective shield. When you doubt, you invite negative forces. Faith is not a mental idea; it is a power."*

— *(Christmas Puja, Pune - 1987)*

A true Sahaja Yogi does not need to fear if he takes *bandhan* and remains surrendered to Mother.

👇Shri Mataji’s Nectar Words *(Complete Protection)*:

*"What do you have to fear? You are the children of the Adi Shakti. All the deities, all the ganas, all the divine powers are deployed to protect you. But they can help only when you call them, when you remain in 'bandhan'... Wear your protective shield and walk fearlessly."*

— *(Devi Puja, Australia - 1991)*

---

📝 *Conclusion*

From Shri Mataji’s words it is clear that the sorrows in our lives are not external; they arise due to our attention, ego, violation of maryadas, and lack of faith.

When we regularly do *clearing* through *foot soaking*, meditate in the early morning during *Brahma Muhurta* and again at night, live in collectivity, forgive others, and maintain complete faith, then obstacles automatically disappear. This is the state that prepares us for the next stage—becoming an *angel of the Divine*.

*Jai Shri Mataji* 🙏🌺
